Gippsland Youth Commitment

Gippsland Youth Commitment logoThe Gippsland Youth Commitment aims to improve the education, training and employment outcomes for the region’s young people and therefore also advance Gippsland’s regional economic development by improving collaborative planning and implementation across Gippsland.

The Gippsland Youth Commitment, launched in May 2008, will ensure that all young people aged 15 to 19 years are engaged in education to attainment of Year 12 or equivalent qualifications which include VCAL and training pathways such as apprenticeships and traineeships.

Completing Year 12, or its equivalent, is the best long term remedy for unemployment, and provides a strong foundation for enabling individuals to successfully navigate the many transitions they make in life.

The Gippsland Youth Commitment is about:

  • Working together - Local, State and Australian Governments, industry, business, education providers and community organisations working collaboratively to improve the planning and delivery of education and training that advances both individual and regional development
  • Meaningful experiences – Inclusive provision arrangements to engage young people in learning to Year 12 or its equivalent
  • Supporting achievement – All young people provided with appropriate support that enables them to complete Year 12 or its equivalent
  • Connecting to opportunity – Young people have access to successful pathways to further training or employment.

The Gippsland Youth Commitment - ‘Gippsland Youth – Everyone’s Responsibility’ - is underpinned by the key principles of:
